    The Council of Nicaea was prompted by controversy that seemed to have been settled by anathemas and a joint statement of faith. But what did it really accomplish? Rather than finally resolving controversy, I’ll argue Nicaea paved the way to further fruitful arguments about fundamental matters of faith.
     

    Kathryn Tanner is Frederick Marquand  Professor of Systematic Theology at Yale Divinity School. Among other books, she is the author of Jesus, Humanity, and the Trinity: A Brief Systematic Theology (Fortress, 2001), and Christ the Key (Cambridge, 2010).
